The Retina Center of Maine welcomes patients by appointment Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Most patients are referred for retinal consultation by their primary eye doctor. We welcome patients for second opinion in cases of difficult diagnosis or suspected retinal disease.

Typically, your visit will be the most thorough eye examination you have ever had. You should plan to have your pupils dilated, and allow approximately two to three hours for your initial appointment. If possible, please bring a friend or family member to help with the drive home. We are glad to review your diagnosis and treatment plan with an accompanying family member or friend at your request.

While we attempt to see all patients on schedule, we must occasionally fit emergency patients in for treatment, and appreciate your understanding if a delay should occur.

Emergency Care

For our current patients who have sudden vision loss, please contact our office for emergency care.

Most of our patients are referred by their primary eye doctor, but we welcome new patients for second opinions in cases of difficult diagnosis or suspected retinal disease. Our practice is limited to the care of patients with diseases of the retina, vitreous, and macula.

Insurance Information

The Retina Center of Maine accepts the allowed amounts established by Medicare or your insurance carrier as payment in full for medical/surgical services rendered. Please bring your insurance identification cards with you on every visit. If you are covered by more than one insurance company, please let us know which insurance is primary.

We will submit claims to your carrier on your behalf. Some insurance companies require you obtain a referral or pre-authorization for office visits and/or treatment. It is your responsibility to obtain this referral from your primary care physician.

Co-payments are payable at the time of your visit. You will be responsible for any balance after your insurance has paid, such as your deductible and/or co-insurance. We accept American Express, MasterCard, Visa and Discover credit cards.

If you have any questions or need assistance with your insurance, our billing specialist will be happy to assist you. Please call Laura at 207-615-0086.
